February is generally known as being the month of celebrating love and observing Valentine’s Day. But what about celebrating love for your heart?

Sadly, it is an equal opportunity killer which claims approximately 1 million lives each year. Fortunately, heart disease can be prevented by making healthy lifestyle choices. 5 HEART HEALTHY LIFESTYLE TIPS
#1: SEE YOUR DOCTOR REGULARLY
Building a good and long-term relationship with your doctor and health care team is important even when you don’t feel sick. Doing so can help you establish a detailed and accurate health history and it makes a good opportunity to set health goals for improving not only your heart health but your overall health in general. So, don’t pass up on those regular check-ups!
#2: EXERCISE FOR YOUR HEART
Our heart doesn’t need much to be happy. In fact, you can keep it as simple as incorporating 15 minute walks at least three times a week. If you enjoy that and feel like challenging yourself a bit, increase your time to 30 minutes. You don’t have to exercise at crazy levels of intensity to reap the benefits and really, small changes go a long way.
#3: EAT HEART HEALTHY FOODS
You are what you eat and the same is true when it comes to your heart health. There are many foods that are especially great for heart health because they contain critical vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients, fiber and healthy fats, all which help protect the heart. Some of the foods you can add to your diets include: salmon, oatmeal, nuts, brown rice, green vegetables, berries and avocado (to name a few).
#4: MANAGE YOUR STRESS
It is no secret that stress is bad for the heart but, there are so many things you can do to help manage stress and keep your heart happy and healthy. For instance, engaging in outdoor activities is always a great stress reliever. Getting sunshine and fresh air does amazing things for the body! Better yet, plan those outdoor activities with good friends and loved ones. Our hearts are a foundation of our emotions; we feel love, connection and intimacy with our hearts. Get out there, get moving, laugh, smile and play! Doing so can significantly reduce stress hormones and lower blood pressure which are beneficial to your heart.
#5: SLEEP IS IMPORTANT
Studies have shown that not getting sufficient sleep is damaging to the heart and can increase the risk for heart disease. Our bodies work hard to carry out day to day functions, keep us strong and healthy and survive and it deserves to rest to get the necessary strength to do it all over again the next day. #1: OUTLINE YOUR PLAN One of the first things we suggest is to outline an effective plan to carry out your resolution. How will you deal with the temptation to have that doughnut, milkshake or piece of pie? What is your plan when you lack motivation to hit the gym and are tempted to skip a workout?
Your plan can consist of creating a schedule, practicing positive thinking and self-talk, focusing on the reason why you want to accomplish your goal, reminding yourself of what is at stake if you give in to your temptations or even calling a friend for motivation.
#2: TRACK YOUR PROGRESS Tracking your progress is one of those things that although it may seem unecessary, is really effective. Having a visual reminder of your progress is a huge motivator; little accomplishments are better than no accomplishments at all. A good way to track your progress and help you stay on track is keeping a food journal. Also, it is easier to stick to short-term goals. For example, instead of of focusing on the 25 pounds you want to lose, focus on just losing the first 5. Smaller goals are much more attainable and the feeling of satisfaction you get when reaching your goal is unlike anything else!
#3: STICK TO IT AND DON’T GIVE UP Studies have shown that it normally takes about 21 days for a new activity to become a habit and at least 6 months for it to become part of your lifestyle. With that in mind, we know the road ahead will be challenging but, don’t give up. Remember, you can do it and it will be worth it!
#4: REWARD YOURSELF Reaching a goal (whether big or small) is a big deal. Therefore, make sure to reward yourself for all your hard work and dedication! Now, a word of caution: this does not mean you can eat an entire cake or that gallon of ice cream you’ve been fantasizing about all month. Instead, celebrate your success by treating yourself to something you enjoy that won’t contradict your resolution. For example, if your resolution is to lose weight, you can reward yourself with a new workout outfit or a mini vacation!
#5: BE REALISTIC Anything is possible with hard work and dedication but it is also important to set realistic goals to guarantee your success. Resolving to never eat your favorite foods ever again is a sure way to set yourself up for failure. Avoid making this mistake by setting smaller goals that lead up to your ultimate goal and make sure every step leading up to that ultimate goal is attainable. Small steps go a long way; as they say, slow and steady wins the race.

We now offer a bag recycle program for all deliveries! For each delivery that you receive, you can return the bags to receive a $5.00 credit which you will be able to use on your next order. If you are home during the delivery you are more than welcome to take the meals and return the bag to our delivery driver or you can simply leave it on the porch on the day of the next delivery you schedule.
